144 is the LCM and the GCF is 24

factor them
12=2*2*3 -> two 2's, and one 3
48=2*2*2*2*3 -> four 2's and one 3
72=2*2*2*3*3 -> three 2's and two 3's

LCM includes all of them
the max number of 2's is 4
the max number of 3's is 2
lcm=2*2*2*2*3*3=144
