2x2 + 13x - 7 factor the polynomial

2x2 + 13x - 7
=(2x - 1)(x + 7)

You need the two outside terms and two inside terms to add to 13x. And the last term in each of the parentheses to multiply to -7.

ANSWER: (2x - 1)(x + 7)
